Are you Draco Malfoy or Harry Potter?

With the advent of social media, Netflix and our rapidly growing entertainment industry, it is sometimes easy to forget that the stories we are watching onscreen are playing out right in front of us in the world today. Look at the socio-cultural mess in North Korea for starters, whose political milieu resembles the Hunger Games, a world we thought could have never possibly existed in reality. The truth is, it does, yet we sit here in our comfortable beds, watching Katniss Everdeen and Harry Potter and all these great fictional heroines and heroes fight for the causes they are impassioned by. It is sometimes easy to forget that we can also do the same.

Now that doesn't mean that we need to pack our bags and move to the most impoverished place on earth to begin making a difference. But for a start we can raise the awareness of these issues, donate to reputable and trust-worthy charities and talk about these subjects with others so that they too can contribute to these causes.

So I ask you a question; are you going to be the Malfoys and sit and watch the horror play out in front of you from your cosy little spot away from danger? Or are you going to be the Potters and DO SOMETHING to instigate change?

I invite you to choose the latter of those two options. Because big changes can't occur unless even the smallest of us play our part. So pick up your wands and get moving, because the world isn't going to change unless we change our thinking first.
