Why The World Wants You To Hate Veganism: Let's look at the logic of a plant-based lifestyle

‘You have a bike rider and a vegan in a room. Let’s say both of them chose their lifestyles to reduce greenhouse gas emissions. Why will people condemn and pester the vegan about why it is they do what they do, and not the bike rider?’
This article is not so much about why you should convert to veganism as much as it is an article about asking why there is stigma attached to the name in the first place. To be honest the ‘why convert to veganism’ article has been done myriad times before. We already know that the meat industry is detrimental to the planet. We already know that killing innocent animals feels wrong. We already know that eating animal products contributes to health issues. This article is more of a personal testament from someone who has been transitioning to raw veganism since 2015. And it is also a place to explore how the media has fostered the indoctrination of society, causing the majority of us to believe that animal products are necessary for nutrition and when consumed, is a ‘normal’ and ‘acceptable’ thing to do.
Firstly, let’s face it. Nobody likes being the odd one out; the one that can’t touch the meat pies at the party. One of the reasons people dislike vegans so much is because they challenge previously accepted conventions, and nobody likes to face the fact that eating a meat pie in today’s society is absolutely illogical. Not just ‘unnecessary,’ but downright illogical. Does that statement make you feel uncomfortable? I hope so, because if you finish this article feeling good about the planet then you have missed the point.
The meat and dairy industry is incredibly pollutive. It contributes to water scarcity as raising animals cannot be done without involving a great deal of (fresh) water (per ton of product, animal products generally have a larger water footprint than crop products). Meat and dairy products also contribute to health issues down the road, such as cholesterol, mucus build up and heart attack amongst other issues.
As someone who has been both a non-vegan and vegan in their life, I can tell you that the latter lifestyle is demonstrably better for you, when practiced in an informed way. I haven’t taken medication for anything in years aside from Malarone tablets when I went to India. I rarely get the cold/flu. And this was not the case before I was vegan - I would catch a cold at least three times a year. Also when I am on a fruit fast and eat meat, bread or dairy afterwards I will notice the difference. I break out, I get bloated and sometimes can’t even breathe through my nose because my body reacts to cooked food by producing mucus. This suggests that when we stray from our natural diet, bad things happen. Can you imagine what a lifetime of eating these foods will do to your body? If you walk into a hospital, you’ll see the results for yourself. Of course some illnesses are genetic, but a lot of them can be prevented just by eating what we are designed to eat.
I’m not a dietician or medical professional, but you don’t need to be to look at this next bit of logic:
Let’s go back a few years to when humanity lived in nature. What would they eat in a day? Would they have a plate of assorted cooked foods or would they have a simple meal of uncooked fruit or vegetables. Obviously they would have the latter. They would eat perhaps one type of fruit or vegetable for an entire day because that’s what would be in season at a particular location. These days we have foods that are created using so many ingredients, that are not possible to find/create in a natural environment by a small community of people. And we are eating more of these types of foods than actual fruits, vegetables, nuts and seeds that would have actually been available to us in a natural environment. And we sit and wonder why there is a health epidemic. It’s because we have complicated our diets because we are living in a world where everything is complicated. But our body is designed to eat simple foods. In other words the industry has evolved and surpassed our biological capacities to consume products manufactured within the industry. So when we fuse complicated food with a simple biological system, of course we are going to have problems. Our mission for the future should not be to further complicate food, but reverse industry evolution. To go forward, we need to go back.
For those that state that we are designed to eat meat then think again. Our bodies can digest it, but not as easily as we can digest fruit which logically tells us that our body is biologically made to digest fruit (simple sugars) first and foremost. We crave and like sweet things because we are designed to eat sweet things; fruit. If you say ‘but I also like the taste of bread - doesn’t that mean we should eat bread?' No it doesn’t - break down that bread into ingredients. You wouldn’t like the taste of flour or salt on its own. You wouldn’t like butter on its own.
Why is cooked food less vibrant than raw food? How come fruits and vegetables are the most colourful things on the food pyramid? Why is packaged food so colourful? It’s because humans are attracted to vibrant food. Colour looks appetising to us - because colourful things are what we are designed to eat, not cooked brown things. Doesn’t this logically and biologically tell us that we should eat more fruit above anything else? Do you eat more fruit than meat? Is fruit the main thing you eat? Our body tells us it should be, yet the food pyramid touted to us in schools says otherwise - that people should be consuming more pasta, bread and cereal more than anything else. Do you find pasta, bread and cereal in nature? Of course not. So why are we told to eat more of this than the fruits and vegetables we would find in a natural habitat? Because companies make a lot of money by selling us things we couldn’t grow in our own backyards (and they pack it full of sugar and advertise it on television so we get addicted to it).
What happens when you eat things that your body digests quicker than other things? As someone who has tried this method on and off for over three years, I can tell you first-hand that your quality of life increases when you give your body food that it is actually designed for.
Going back to simple eating is not just a fad that should be adopted by rich American children, but the whole world. This truth is hard and uncomfortable to hear, but it is necessary not only for the survival of our species, but for the planet.
So next time you meet an angry and passionate vegan, just know that they are that way because they are trying to solve a problem amidst a world that doesn’t want to admit what the problem really is. Our diet is the problem. It sounds like such a trivial thing, but can you imagine if we all actually ate what we were designed to eat? We would have less health problems and a cleaner, more sustainable planet; arguably two of the biggest issues the world is facing today. So yeah, it does make a difference if you skip that meat pie.
So now that we’ve established that veganism is a logical step the world needs (not wants) to take, let’s explore why the world is so against it. Well all these big companies that run the planet are making a hell of a lot of money from you by literally making you sick. Because if you are addicted to their food, you’ll keep buying it, getting sick and then looking for medications (which are overpriced) to solve your problems. The medication is not going to solve your problem - it is something that masks that underlying problem. The problem is what caused the issue in the first place (most of the time it’s your food). Let’s look at a plant for example. If you keep watering it with soda instead of water it is going to get sick. You might give it some fertiliser to make it appear less sick, but eventually the plant will die unless you solve the underlying problem: you give the plant water instead of soda. Now let’s take a closer look at the gardener. Why is that gardener giving the plant soda, knowing it is bad for them? Well why is the government allowing televisions to showcase McDonalds adverts, knowing that McDonalds leads to all sorts of health problems, when consumed? That’s right, we are living in a messed up society where money comes before people’s wellbeing. If you think the government cares about your health than you are wrong - because if they did they would ban fast food advertisements that indoctrinate children to support the meat and dairy industry. Essentially they are brainwashing the future into adopting a lifestyle that will not only cut their lives short, but cause the planet’s life to be cut short as well. We need to wake up and take action - that means we need to educate ourselves and adhere to a lifestyle that is necessary for the planet’s survival and we need to educate our children about this lifestyle. We need to start questioning conventions advertised to us. We need to look for alternatives because if we don’t we will continue to fall into the trajectory of descent the world has currently set for itself.
Please share this article with as many people as you can - who cares if people think you’re a ranting vegan? What’s more important - the planet or your reputation?
